From Closure to Comeback

Nestled in Mount Hood National Forest in Estacada, Oregon, Bagby Hot Springs officially reopened on May 1. Although it’s been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic and subsequent road damage from the Riverside and Bull Complex forest fires, the hot springs are still flowing and they were unharmed during the fires.

Bagby Hot Springs Trailhead Campground

Known for its wooden soaking tubs, Bagby now has two of its three soaking areas open. The 16-site campground at the trailhead and the Ripplebrook Store, offering supplies, $5 soaking passes, and free internet, are also open.

Bagby Hot Springs Preservation

Managed by Bagby Preservation Inc., the hot springs are being restored to their former glory. Owners Mike and Tamarah Rysavy have installed new water systems, removed hazardous trees, and cleaned the tubs. A camp host and staff will be on site starting Memorial Day.

1.5 Mile Hike from Trailhead

Visitors can hike 1.5 miles from the trailhead to two open communal soaking areas: Bathhouse #1 with a large tub for eight people, and Bathhouse #3 with one round and three single tubs. Bathhouse #2, previously with private rooms, remains closed but may be rebuilt in the future.
