This new one-of-a-kind bar located in the heart of Portland deserves a breathtakingly badass byline, because Below by Botanist blasts even the best bars out of the water with their beloved beverages and late night beats with pork belly treats that can’t be beat from our friend Bartek’s beautiful blushing bride (yes, my 4 year old son helped me with the B title/intro). Ok, no more extra Bs…lol
Below by Botanist
Below by Botanist is now open, and the newly transformed space is just right for those fun nights laughing with friends, or meeting new people as you explore the best of PDX. Breathtaking Beards Backing Beverages
Badass bartender, Jon Wessels, has been raising the stakes while perfecting his craft, serving his way to local celebrity bartender status with a smile. The man is a legend in our circle. One of the best and fastest in the business for sure, because you almost never have to wait with Jon Wessels behind the bar. Waiting in drink lines is the worst sometimes. That’s why, when our crew rolls up in the party bus, he’s the first person I turn to, he’s just that good. Cheers to Jon Wessels for taking care of us with love for so many years.
Botanist has been cultivating relationships and boost business in the area for some time now, and this beautiful bond between Botanist and our bro Jon Wessel to create Below is badass. We love this story.

Above & Beyond
When our crew rolls up in the party bus, Jon Wessels is the only person I turn to for service, he’s just that good. Seriously, he is, and those who know him will not argue these facts. Cheers to Jon Wessels for taking care of us with love for over a decade and counting. You earned this, congrats bro. Now, everyone please go support his new business whenever possible. If you’re going out, stop by and say hi. Cheers.
Late Night Hawaiian
Twice, I repeat, twice this last week I was craving late night Hawaiian food, and I had no idea there was a late night option. Unbelievable. I’m looking at you Bartek (just kidding). I was on Dad duty last week when I heard the news so I wouldn’t have made it to the opening anyway. I am really excited to see this collab tho.
P.s. Bartek, how dare you withhold such amazing looking nachos from me! Jk but for real tho, look at these nachos^ people and tell me I’m wrong. Yeah, that’s what I thought, so put Hapa Barkada on your list of great late night eats in Downtown Portland.

Family & Flavor Flourishing Together
Full disclosure, my team and I already patron one of best Hawaiian BBQ joints in the metro, Aloha Grill, but it’s a big/little city/town so there’s plenty of room for more than one amazing Hawaiian place in the Portland metro. Especially when no one will dare travel the traffic from Downtown to Tualatin or vise versa these days, and with so many different menu options available at both spots, there’s really no competition. That said, expect to see me for some late night Hawaiian. #yum
