Amidst mounting speculation and conspiracy theories, it’s important to honor the memory of Corey Comperatore, a man who made the ultimate sacrifice, heroically giving his life to protect his family.
Family and friends are paying tribute to Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who tragically lost his life during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. They remember him as a committed family man, dedicated to serving his community and always ready to aid his friends.
Comperatore was attending the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, as part of Trump’s 2024 reelection campaign. Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that Comperatore died while shielding his family from danger.
In an interview with the New York Post, Helen Comperatore, Corey’s widow, shared his final words as he shielded them from gunfire: “He’s my hero,” she said. “He just said, ‘Get down!’ That was the last thing he said.”
“Corey was a devoted father to his daughters. He served as a firefighter and attended church every Sunday. He loved his community dearly, but above all, he cherished his family.” – Governor Shapiro
The gunman behind the attack, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was fatally shot by Secret Service agents at the scene. The FBI is investigating the incident as an assassination attempt.
Governor Shapiro, who ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Comperatore’s honor, personally spoke with his wife and two daughters on Sunday.
Mike Morehouse, a longtime neighbor of Comperatore, expressed his admiration, describing him as a hero. Morehouse also revealed that he registered to vote for the first time, moved by Comperatore’s memory and the tragic events.
